Mindmatics and UTM Strengthen Technological Innovation
Putrajaya, 4 November 2025 — Mindmatics Sdn Bhd and Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) have officially signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to jointly develop an Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) Power Generator designed for the precision machining of hip implant components.
This strategic partnership marks a significant step forward in enhancing Malaysia’s capabilities in high-technology innovation and the defence sector. The partnership focuses on enhancing the country’s expertise in Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) technology — one of the core elements in the development of radar systems by Mindmatics Sdn Bhd, a local company focused on defence electronic systems.
In EDM systems, FPGA technology enables precise control of electrical discharges and accurate feedback monitoring. Similarly, in radar system, FPGA plays a crucial role in pulse generation and signal processing. The knowledge and technical experience gained through this EDM initiative — including FPGA design, timing control, and signal processing — can be leveraged in radar system development, improving performance, efficiency, and reliability.
A high-performance and reliable radar system is vital in strengthening national defence operations. Through the mastery of FPGA-based control and signal optimization, Malaysia can progress toward developing radar technologies that deliver superior detection accuracy, faster response time, and higher resilience against electronic interference. This cross-sectoral synergy bridges industrial innovation with defence advancement, reinforcing Malaysia’s goal of technological sovereignty and self-reliance.
During the signing ceremony, En. Abdul Wahab Bin Sulaiman, Director of Mindmatics Sdn Bhd, highlighted that the partnership aligns with Malaysia’s national agenda to strengthen collaboration between industry and academia. He emphasized that such strategic cooperation is vital to nurturing local innovation and technological resilience. Both UTM and Mindmatics Sdn Bhd expressed confidence that this initiative will drive progress in engineering technology and advanced defence electronic systems, contributing to the nation’s long-term capability development and sustainable technological advancement.
